Uniform Drive for Orphans in Honduras

Donate Your Old Uniforms and Make the World a Little Better Place

There is an orphanage in Honduras, Central America that one of our soccer families is supporting. Honduras is one of the poorest countries in our hemisphere. Crime and unemployment is very high, and there are many abandoned children living in the streets. The orphanage they are supporting is in the town of Aguas del Padre which is just outside of the city of Siguatepeque. The orphanage is called La Providencia. Their primary goal is to minister to orphans and widows. They provide homes with house parents for each group of orphans. They try to place each child into a home setting.

Soccer is the national sport of Honduras. Most boys play pick up games anywhere they can and pretend to be the local soccer star. They play without uniforms and without shoes and with old beat up soccer balls. We would love to be able to donate soccer uniforms, shoes, shin guards, and balls for these children to use. Girls don't play soccer in Honduras, but if we sent uniforms maybe we could begin to change that. This would make such an impact on these children. Uniforms could be issued for games, and with proper care could last many years. In addition to the orphanage, we would be able to supply uniforms and soccer equipment for many of the other children in Siguatepeque and other parts of Honduras.

Frank Jamie, who is heading this effort, noted, "I have 3 children playing AYSO soccer this year. We now have 6 different uniforms that our children will never again wear. That is probably the same in most homes of AYSO players. Think of how much of a difference we could make if we gathered these uniforms and donated them to the poor of Honduras."

Your participation in this program is totally voluntary and we greatly appreciate any uniforms and equipment that are donated.

There are two ways for you to donate uniforms and soccer equipment:

  1. When you go to registration on the 23rd and the 30th of April, you will find a box to put your uniforms and equipment in.
  2. If you want to donate uniforms of equipment after registration, contact Frank Jamie to arrange for someone to pick up your donation.

We will be accepting any uniforms or soccer equipment that you may be willing to donate.

Thank you so much for your consideration of this worthwhile project.
